The Art Department offers a wide range of traditional and contemporary art practices. Students are encouraged to explore and develop their individual talents and skills alongside our faculty.
The Art Department joins the outpouring of grief and outrage as demonstrated in the ongoing protests here in Riverside, nationally and internationally. We mourn the deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, Nina Pop, Ahmaud Arbery and the many others whose lives were taken by racism and police brutality. We stand in solidarity with the student led Call to Action and challenge our leadership to an urgent and meaningful response.
Challenging what we know and what we see is at the very heart of what we do as artists. We strive for a better world often without knowing what it will look like.
We unite with those seeking justice, equality, and freedom all around the world. We commit to the examining and undoing of the ways structural racism continues to shape our institutions. UC Riverside is the most diverse in its student body of all UC campuses. As we celebrate our diversity, we will continue to be inclusive, protect our students and amplify their voices.
This is a point of no return. We must collectively reimagine our institution so that it supports Black life and eradicate racial injustice and inequality for all.
